Indiegogo crowd-funding up and running

Our page at indiegogo.com is up and running and we have a brave soul who started us off with a Kick Off contribution.  Thank you kind benefactor.

Did you ever have that dream in school, the one where you realize at finals exam time that you had never attended the course and didn’t know any of the material?  We were having something similar about our project starting up and wilting like week-old flowers in a vase for 45 long days while nothing happened.  But you rescued us from that fate and we are grateful!

I have to re-post here my 50 seconds of fame (our project explanation video).  No, it is not a great video.  It is better than the first one I did.  But it made my wife laugh for about 10 minutes so I figured it must not be too bad.

Callsign confirmed: WMFH-LP

Today in the mail we received three postcards from the Federal Communications Commission. Two said that we had requested callsign WMFH-LP and the third said that we are now assigned WMFH-LP. That officially goes into effect on 3-FEB-2014.

So now we have our construction permit and our callsign assignment! I do believe that takes care of all of the big paperwork. We now have 18 months to build our station and get it on the air.

Today’s progress

Today I spoke to the Nautel folks for a bit on the phone about their first-rate transmitter. They are having a sale, including an optional audio processor part in the regular list price. That’s a pretty good deal.

We talked about RDS. Their transmitter does ‘static’ RDS, which means that it will display a small string of text on an RDS enabled receiver. We are looking to do more than that. We would like to show the title and author of the current piece being broadcast.

It sounds like we will need an outboard RDS encoder box to do that.

I also did some more work on our kickstarter project page. More to be done in that department before we launch it.
