Project Gutenberg

was started in the 1970s to type and scan public domain books into computer text form. They now have over 45,000 free e-books available for download.

Anything published before 1923 is now in the public domain: books, journals, poems, articles. That means they can be freely used.

LibriVox Project

objective is to make all books in the public domain available, for free, in audio format on the internet. Volunteers read and record public domain books.

They have over 10,000 audio books in their catalog.

At Classic Book Radio our goal is to use these free audio recordings of classic literature

  • for public enjoyment,
  • to spark the pleasure of reading in our listeners,
  • to encourage them to read along together
  • and read for themselves.

Our plan is to broadcast selections from the LibriVox.org library over the radio while making the texts available through our webpage.  Our radio station will also be available on your computer, laptop, notepad or smartphone via internet streaming.
